i'm not sure i really understand, what u have an icon as ur default pic if so u just have to go into add/edit photos, but if ur talkin about having an icon as a headline or just on ur pro somewhere then u would go into edit profile
1)Go to Add/ Edit Photos
2)Then click on View All My Photos
3)Click on the picture you want as your display picture(or icon)
4)Somewhere above the picture should say set as default and click that.

on my myspace i have used satanshell and mygen to create my profile, but i would like to now hide the 'icons' which link to them now

Sorry you cant, thats how they advertise. Most sites when you use one of their layouts will slip their name or design into the code and unless your super smart in knowing codes you cant take out the part that shows their icons. Examples, myspacepimper, pyzam.

Look for the code and post it where it tells you too. Most web sites for myspace have codes for that.
By simply signing in. I don't think they allow custom ones.....If you are online, you will be showed as...."Online" with the animated green thing.....w/e it is haha....but thats the only way that I know!

Go under pics and stuff and click upload pics pick the one you want hten it uplosds
go to the user's profile and click on "edit/view photos". When the screen loads, click browse to search for pics or icons on your pc to load on your myspace. Some pics may have to be resized...
pick on of the pictures and edit it on paint. place the picture on a white background and take the other picture and place it underneath your first picture. Save it and transfer it to myspace.
Well...first you take a picture either from your camera, your phone, off a webpage or anywhere else, then you save it on to your computer. You then go on to your myspace page, go to upload/change photo. Scroll down to the part where you see the whole "browse" thing, click browse and find the photo under the name you saved it as. Click on it and the link should appear on the space for it. Click upload and if your pic is not too large a file, it should upload just fine.
Carefully read the instructions on the MySpace Website as to how to use their applications.
